Are you new to the Audubon community and want to learn more about "Together as One," the largest fundraiser of the year? Here are some possible questions you may have and our well-thought out answers:
You can expect to have a really good time celebrating the night away with all of your Audubon friends, your kids’ classmates’ parents and some of Audubon's staff. Mr. James is going…Ms. Duffy too, and our honorary guest is 47th Ward Alderman Ameya Pawar. We anticipate roughly 300 guests to attend this year's event hosted at a fantastic, fun and new venue space Ovation, located at 2324 W. Fulton.
Audubon's Together as One Winter Gala is Friends of Audubon’s largest fundraiser of the year. Last year we raised $130,000 and we hope to surpass that goal this year. Funds are raised via the purchase of admission tickets, raffle tickets, and on-site participation in games and a silent and live auction. This year we are taking the auction into the next century by offering mobile bidding for the very first time! The live auction is a real highlight of the night and many of the packages are great to bid with a group of friends. In addition to priceless experiences and one-of-a-kind specialty items, we'll also action off fantastic student artwork, unforgettable teacher experiences, festive parent parties and more - there will be something for every enthusiast!
What do the funds raised go towards?
The net revenue from the event goes into the general fund of Friends of Audubon which is transferred over to the Local School Council and Principal Duffy at the end of the school year. The Local School Council and Audubon's administration together decide on the direct usage of all Friends of Audubon funds raised. In recent years, Friends of Audubon has raised $300,000+ annually through fundraising activities, including the Winter Gala, and these funds greatly enhance our students' learning experiences. Attending Audubon's Together as One Winter Gala is a fun way to support our students while having a great time socializing with the Audubon community.
Do I need to bring money to the event?
If you purchase your tickets online via this event website, we will have your credit card on file for purchasing/bidding on larger items. When you enter the event there will be a check-in/registration table and we will verify that we have the correct card on file. Don’t worry; third-parties process your credit card in a highly secure manner via our donation facilitator GreaterGiving. We will also ask for your mobile phone number so that you can partake in mobile bidding. You may want to bring cash for raffle tickets, games or to tip the bartenders, but honestly, all you need is a credit card to partake in the fun!
What is the attire?
City chic, a night out, really anything that makes you feel as special as your kids for a night celebrating and supporting the Audubon community. Jeans are great, and so are cocktail dresses. Jackets are not required. You can wear your flannel PJs (your Audubon flannel PJs of course!) for all we care.
Is there parking available?
At the event site, Ovation (2324 W.Fulton), there is abundant (and free!) street parking in the immediate area. However, if you really want to enjoy yourselves we recommend not driving and instead taking an Uber, a taxi or getting a ride. Ovation is located just off Western making it a quick trip by Uber from the Roscoe Village neighborhood. And if you really want to arrive in style, purchase a ticket to ride down on the Trolley complete with pre-event refreshments!
Do I have to pay for drinks?
No! There will be an open bar all night long. Purchasing a ticket to the event gives you access to the open bar throughout the night. The bar will feature beer on tap, a selection of red and white wine and a fully stocked selection of spirits.
What about food?
There is no need to eat dinner before attending the Gala. A Food Showcase featuring 8-10 local restaurants will provide tasting stations offering heavy appetizers and snacks throughout the night. Trust us, there will be plenty of food to enjoy.
How will the live and silent auctions work?
We have the venue until midnight…but the auction will shut down at 10:30 p.m., and we will begin the check out process then.
Speaking of parties, what are parent parties?
Parents within our Audubon community donate and host private events (often but not always hosted at their homes) and sell slots to attend these events. Parent parties are a hit and a fantastic way to get to know other parents in the Audubon community! Parent parties will not be available in the online auction, so you must attend the event to purchase a slot to attend a parent party! Any leftover slots will be sold online post-event. Want to know more or interested in hosting a parent party? Check out the parent party page here.
What are teacher parties/experiences?
Some of our fabulous teachers and staff at Audubon donate student experiences to the auction. Examples of these special experiences include one-on-one teacher outings where students can join a favorite teacher for lunch, ice cream, etc. and group experiences where you can purchase an individual slots for your student to attend a teacher-hosted group experience like bowling or a dance party. Friends of Audubon (FoA or Friends) is a 501(c)3, all-volunteer, parent-run organization that was established in 2006 for the sole purpose of raising money to support Audubon School. Audubon parents provide the majority of donations received by Friends; however, Audubon is lucky enough to have amazing community support that is very generous to Friends.
Friends of Audubon raises money that is spent at the discretion of the Local School Council (LSC) on teaching and support staff, school-wide music and art instruction, technology equipment, software, and improvements to Audubon’s building and campus.
